Using 2D codes

Learn how to use 2D codes like barcodes, QR codes, and data matrix codes (like the codes on Petzl equipment)

Updated over a month ago

2D codes include barcodes, QR codes, and data matrix codes, like the codes on Petzl equipment. If you want to know more about 2D codes and what brands use which codes, read our blog ‘Using Petzl codes and other scannable technology’

Using 2D codes with the mobile app to add equipment to your inventory

  1. Tap the Scannable logo at the bottom of the app

  2. Tap ‘Scan’

  3. Scan the packaging barcode to search our database of equipment

  4. Select the item you want to add

  5. Tap ‘Add to Inventory’

  6. Tap on the crosshairs on the right hand side of the Serial Number field

  7. Scan the 2D code to enter the serial number (Petzl use a data matrix, but you can also scan QR codes). The Date of Manufacture may be automatically calculated from the serial number on your item

  8. Enter the Date of First Use and other information you may wish to record

  9. Tap ‘Add to Inventory’

  10. From here, if you’re adding NFC to your equipment, you can tap ‘+Add NFC’, or, simply scan the data matrix to manage your item without NFC

Using 2D codes with the mobile app for items already in your inventory

  1. Tap the Scannable logo at the bottom of the app

  2. Tap ‘Scan’

  3. Scan the 2D code

  4. Your item will open. From here you can manage your item you need: perform inspections, check specifications, view history, etc.
