Capture serials when your production line already marks a serial number on each item. You record those serials in Scannable as you make the items, and you can link an NFC tag to each one. Scannable stores the serials you capture. It doesn't generate them.
If you want Scannable to generate your serials instead, see Create serials.
Before you start
You capture serials in one of two ways:
Scannable Production App, on your production-line computer, with a barcode scanner and NFC reader. Use it for regular production. See Scannable Production App: setup and user guide.
Scannable mobile app, for small batches, one-offs, or when you're away from the production line. See Capturing serials and NFC through the mobile app.
You don't need a serial format to capture serials.
1. Create a capture purchase order
Go to Production. Select Order, then Create purchase order.
Under Select products, add each SKU you're making. Enter its Serial quantity: the number of items you expect to make.
Under Serial numbers, choose Capture serials.
Fill in Order info: Purchase order, Sales order number, Customer reference, Batch number and Date of manufacture.
Select Create order.
The order appears in Production as Capturing…, with the number of serials captured so far. It also appears as a job in the Production App, ready to scan into.
2. Capture the serials
In the Production App, choose the order from the job list. If the order has more than one SKU, pick the SKU you're making. Then scan each item's serial and tap its NFC tag. The progress count updates as you go.
Choose the reader mode that matches your items:
Capture Serial and NFC links a new serial to a new NFC tag. This is the default.
Capture Serial Only is for items without an NFC tag.
Capture NFC Only is for items without a 2D code.
Link Existing Serial and NFC replaces a damaged or wrongly linked tag.
In the mobile app, open Production, open the order's menu and select Capture serial. Scan or type each serial, select Add NFC and tap the tag, then select Add to list. When you've finished, select Complete capturing. To carry on later, select Save and finish later.
3. Close the order
A run closes by itself when you've captured its full quantity.
To close a run early, open the order's menu in Production and select Close run, or Close order for every run on it. Stations capturing into it stop accepting scans, and the order shows as Captured.
To capture more, select Reopen run or Reopen order. In the web app, only Admins can close and reopen orders. You can also close and reopen runs from the job list in the Production App.
4. Review the captured serials
Select the order in Production to see its serials in the View serials panel. Serials with a linked NFC tag show an NFC icon. Select any serial to see its unique URL. This is the page an equipment owner sees when they tap the item with their phone.
To download the serials as a CSV file, select the download icon on the order.
