Short answer: Yes, you can use NFC tags from other sources that will work with Scannable.

But...

Scannable NFC tags can be scanned by anyone with a mobile device that has NFC turned on, even without the app installed or open.

Each saved item of equipment on Scannable is given its own URL. When scanning Scannable NFC tags from outside the app, you'll be directed to your browser where you can view the status, technical information, and ownership.

With third-party NFC tags, this is not possible.

We’ve put a bunch of time into research and development of NFC tags specifically to withstand the demands of working at height (like our carabiner tags that sit flush in the recess of most I and H beam carabiners, and our rope tags that go inside the end of your ropes), ensuring their quality and durability.

That being said, we ultimately believe the best option is to empower equipment manufacturers to embed NFC at the point of manufacture and load all of the item’s information at the same time, which is why we’re supporting brands like Beal, Sterling, Notch, and many more to do this with Smart Products.
